Abbey Library of St.Gall

Purpose

The Friends of the Abbey Library is a society which was founded in 1998 for the purpose of supporting special purchases and projects of the Abbey Library, such as the restoration of valuable manuscripts, the purchase of expensive books, or the funding of unusual research projects.

Members are granted free admission to the Library and receive invitations to special events. They also receive a discount on new publications of the Abbey Library. Under the chairmanship of Cantonal Councillor Werner Ritter, the Friends of the Abbey Library are currently planning a series of events designed to present the treasures of the Abbey Library to a wider public.

New members also receive a free copy of the collector’s edition of the Cimelia Sangallensia (worth CHF 58.-), which contains descriptions and pictures of the hundred most beautiful, interesting, and important manuscripts in the Abbey Library collection (in German).
